How to Travel to and from the Medellin Airport: Jose Maria Cordova

Medellin’s international airport is actually not located in Medellin but in Rionegro, a small city located around 25 km from El Poblado. Since the airport is located outside Medellin you will have to take into account the distance and the traffic. On some occasions, you can take over one and a half hours just to get to the airport. Also, on the way to the airport, you will have to pay an expensive toll (around $20,000 COP) making the transportation services even more expensive. We believe the best way to get from and to the airport is using private vehicle solutions. You can quote your tranpostation services right here.

Get to the Airport by Public Transportation

The first option to get to the airport is using the massive transport system There are many buses that will take you to the airport, but they tend to be completely full. Micros are usually a good option because they are smaller than a bus and have a driver. The downside of micros is that they can only hold a few people, and many areas do not have a designated pick-up spot. They are also very limited and will probably not be available if you are in a hurry or want to optimize your time.

Take a Taxicab or Uber

There are many private taxicabs or ubers that will take you to the airport. These services tend to be cheaper than private shuttles as they will charge you around $80,000 COP depending on where you are going. The downside of taxicabs is that sometimes you will not find availability or on some occasions. You can also share a taxi cab with strangers. This is common and it will be cheaper. You can find the shared white taxi cubs in the San Diego mall.  Also, uber is not regulated, so if the police were to stop you, you might be delayed and maybe lose your flight.

Use Private Shuttle Vehicles

Private shuttle services are one of the best options to get to the airport. They will pick you up at your hotel or hostel and drive you to the airport without any delays or hesitations. It’s always better to plan ahead of time and with private and comfortable vehicles you will be secure and will arrive on time. We offer different vehicles to transport you around the city or to take you to and from the airport.
