How to Travel to and from the Bogota Airport: El Dorado

Bogota is the capital of Colombia and has a large international airport to accommodate all of the travelers who visit. The main international airport serving Bogota is El Dorado International Airport. Some hotels in Bogota will have complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport, but this may not be the case if you are staying elsewhere or are somewhere outside of Bogota — check before you book your reservation! There are many different ways to get to and from the Bogota International Airport (airport code: BOG). You can take public transportation, which takes approximately 20 minutes to the city center without traffic. There are also private vehicles that will take you as well. There is no direct bus shuttle into the city center of Bogota, so you will want to use a taxi company that offers door-to-door pick-up service. When traveling to the airport via public transportation, there are three options: buses (Transmilenio) or micros (smaller buses), taxis, or private shuttles operated by licensed companies with drivers at stations around the city. All three options have their pros and cons; however, we recommend using our private shuttles for several reasons.

Get to the Airport by Public Transportation

The first option to get to the airport is using the capital’s massive transport system, Transmilineo. There are many buses that will take you to the airport, but they tend to be completely full as they have to cover Bogotá’s 8 million population demand. Micros are usually a good option because they are smaller than a bus and have a driver. The downside of micros is that they can only hold a few people, and many areas do not have a designated pick-up spot. Therefore, you may be dropped off at a stop about 1-2 kilometers from the airport. They are also very limited and will probably not be available if you are in a hurry or want to optimize your time.

Take a Taxicab or Uber

There are many private taxicabs or ubers that will take you to the airport. These services tend to be cheaper than private shuttles as they will charge you around $50,000 COP depending on where you are going. The downside of taxicabs is that sometimes you will not find availability or on some occasions, they will refuse to take you. Also, uber is not regulated, so if the police were to stop you, you might be delayed and maybe lose your flight.

Use Private Shuttle Vehicles

Private shuttle services are one of the best options to get to the airport. They will pick you up at your hotel or hostel and drive you to the airport without any delays or hesitations. It’s always better to plan ahead of time and with private and comfortable vehicles you will be secure and will arrive on time. We offer different vehicles to transport you around the city or to take you to and from the airport.
